The true nature of God

...compels us to fall on our face!

In the silence of the desert of Sinai, the Lord descends in a cloud and stands near Moses; He reveals Himself in His infinite greatness and glory!
We read in Exodus 34:6: “The Lord passed before Moses and proclaimed: The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.”

Immediately, Moses bowed down to the ground and worshiped, and he said: “Lord, if I have found favor in Your sight, let the Lord go among us, for it is a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”

In this solemn moment, God revealed Himself to Moses as He truly is! He showed Himself as the supreme God of the universe, the Almighty, the One who forgives but also punishes iniquity! He did not just whisper this into Moses’ ear; He proclaimed it so that he would hear it clearly — and He proclaims it today again to our hardened ears!

I believe that if we truly grasped the holiness of God, we would gain a real sense of the seriousness of our sin; it would take on unimaginable proportions and would force us to bow down and humble ourselves sincerely!

But all too often in our churches, the emphasis is placed on the love and compassion of God — which is indeed biblical! Yet we do not emphasize enough His holiness, nor our spiritual misery and our condition as sinners! We should begin to preach the true nature of God and stop trying to sugar-coat it!

It is precisely because of our sin that separated us from God that He sent His Son to earth, so that through His sacrifice we might be saved and spared from the coming wrath.

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life!”

How many times have we already read this verse! We should read it and reread it again and again until this reality of God’s love for His creation is powerfully revealed in us and leads us to fall on our face and truly repent of our sins — and to accept becoming God’s possession in full!

God keeps His love to a thousand generations and forgives iniquity and sin! Are we truly aware of this? He is faithful in everything He declares! He stretches out His hand day and night.

Isaiah 65:2: “I have spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, who walk in a way that is not good, following their own devices…”

Let us stop stiffening our necks, let us humble ourselves, and invite our Creator to come and reign within us for eternity!

Psalm 95:6: “Come, let us bow down and worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker! For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care… Oh, that today you would listen to His voice!”

“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” (Hebrews 3:7)

Oh, that we may realize the seriousness of our sins before such a holy God, and that we may respond to His call!

Be blessed!
