The Meaning of This New Beginning!
Beginning a new school year or a new season of activities is not simply a matter of turning a page on the calendar or returning to a routine that was temporarily interrupted. For the Christian, time is neither an endless cycle nor a succession of days without any real purpose. Time belongs to God. It is the setting in which the Lord accomplishes His work, shapes us, and calls us to bear fruit.
Every new season can therefore be seen as another step along the path of faith: an opportunity to re-examine our priorities, renew our commitment, and ask God how we can make good use of the days He places before us.
Making the most of the present time does not mean pursuing achievement or filling our lives with endless activities. It is possible to have a very busy schedule while missing what truly matters. Christian wisdom consists rather in discerning what pleases God and transforming the ordinary realities of life into opportunities to love, learn, bear witness, and serve.
God does not call us merely to speak about Him, but to live each day in His presence, with faithfulness, humility, and love.
This new season should be built upon three essential directions: commitment, growth, and service.
- Commit Faithfully
A new season is often a time for decisions and good resolutions. We make plans, choose activities, and organize our time. But before asking ourselves what we want to undertake, it is good to come before God and ask Him:
“Lord, what are You asking of me in this new season?”
We do not all have the same gifts, opportunities, or responsibilities. God does not ask us to follow someone else’s path, but to be faithful with what He has entrusted to us.
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
Colossians 3:23
- Grow in Truth and Faith
Our intelligence is a gift from God. Learning to understand the world through science, history, literature, the arts, or the observation of creation can become a way of recognizing the wisdom and greatness of the Creator.
This growth comes through simple yet essential means: regularly reading the Bible, praying, sharing fellowship with other believers, listening to faithful biblical teaching, and putting into practice what we have understood.
A new year should not merely help us progress in knowledge or skills. It should also lead us to become more patient, more truthful, more humble, more courageous, and more loving.
- Serve in Love
In a society that often encourages personal success and self-promotion, Jesus teaches us another way: the way of service.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45
Our schools, families, churches, and groups should be places of genuine fellowship, where the most vulnerable are not forgotten and where every person is regarded as precious in the sight of God.
The value of a year will therefore not be measured only by the number of projects we have completed, but also by the people we have lifted up, comforted, and drawn closer to Jesus Christ.
- Move Forward under the Guidance of the Holy Spirit
As we cross the threshold into this new season, we do not set out alone or without a guide. The Holy Spirit goes before us, walks alongside us, and strengthens us. He enlightens our minds, reminds us of the words of Jesus, convicts us when we go astray, and gives us the strength to persevere.
Let us entrust to Him our plans, our doubts, our relationships, our legitimate ambitions, and even the weariness we may encounter. Let us ask Him to close the doors that would lead us away from His will and to open those that will enable us to serve wisely and faithfully.
Not everything may unfold as we had planned. Some expectations may be disappointed, and some plans may need to be reconsidered. Yet a fruitful year is not necessarily a year without difficulties. It is a year in which we have learned to trust God more fully, to love our neighbour more deeply, and to walk more closely with Jesus Christ.
So take heart as you enter this new season—with His help…
