He is risen !

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, ...

...even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.”   1 Thessalonians 4:14

This verse shines like a bright light in a dark world.

It does not deny the reality of death, but for the believer it brings hope founded on one person alone: Christ.

Paul does not first say, “Comfort yourselves with an idea,” or “Hold on to a doctrine.” No, he brings believers back to Jesus — to Jesus risen from the dead.

This is the foundation of Christian hope: it is not a religious optimism meant to make us feel better; it rests on one central fact: Christ passed through death and conquered it.

Our hope does not depend on our own strength, on our changing emotions, or on our ability to “believe well.” It rests on the perfect work that Jesus accomplished.

Paul says plainly that “Jesus died.”

He does not soften this reality or minimize it. Paul makes it clear that Jesus truly died — a real death, just like any human being. And this makes the preciousness and power of His resurrection shine all the more.

Why is this so precious?

Because it means that He went all the way into our human condition, even to that boundary no one can escape.

He knows separation, tears, the grave, and the weight of the last enemy.

So the Christian does not have a distant Savior who remained above suffering. He has a Savior who truly went through the very deepest part of human experience.

The resurrection changes everything

If Christ had remained in the tomb, there would be no lasting hope for us. There would only be a beautiful memory, a pious emotion.

But Christ has risen. Therefore death is no longer a wall; it becomes a door that God will one day fully open for His own.

The resurrection of Jesus is not only His personal victory. It is the guarantee of what God will do for those who belong to Him.

Paul speaks here about those who have died in Christ and calls them “those who sleep.”

This word does not remove the reality of death, but it changes the way we look at it.

Sleep speaks of an awakening yet to come. That is the true Christian hope.

This verse was given to believers who were troubled about the fate of their brothers and sisters who had died.

But Paul tells them: “Do not grieve like those who have no hope.” In Christ, separation is not eternal. Those who have died in the Lord are not lost. They belong to Him, kept by Him, and one day they will appear with Him.

He reminds us that those who have died in the Lord are not forgotten somewhere in the shadows of human history. God remembers them, and He will bring them back to life.

This verse speaks, of course, about believers who have died, but it also speaks to the living.

“These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13

John speaks of an eternal life that we already possess here on earth.

Are we always truly aware of that?

When eternity becomes real in our lives, many things return to their proper place.

The urgencies of this world make a lot of noise and can take up much space, but they do not reign.

The risen Christ reigns forever!
